(SAUSALITO, CA) — clé is pleased to introduce Eastern Earthenware, a collection of handcrafted terracotta tiles. Eastern Earthenware was inspired by melding ancient Asian techniques to produce a primitive tile created by earth, fire and minerals. Each tile is hand-formed from rustic terracotta and fired in a traditional beehive shaped kiln, fueled by natural materials. The uneven firing temperatures produce luminous variations in the glazes. The mineral based pigments have produced a palette of 25 variegated colors, curated by Deborah Osburn. Eastern Earthenware tiles are available in 4″X4″. The tiles can be installed indoors and out, on floors and walls.
Eastern Earthenware is available exclusively on clé. Deborah Osburn started the international artisan tile e-boutique in 2012. The tiles on clé are as distinct as the artists who create them. It is Osburn’s goal to provide a forum for discovery and conversation about what she loves most, tiles created by impassioned artists creating remarkable surfaces.
“I’m literally brimming with pride over unveiling, Eastern Earthenware, an exclusive collection of glazed terracotta that combines the magic of a raku glaze combined with the popularity of a hand hewn terracotta, such as zellige. This offering represents years of development pairing the artistry of an ancient ceramics heritage with the market demands for a tile of sophisticated glaze qualities and coloring.”
